The Glasser Ginger Award

CREATED TO RECOGNIZE CLUB MEMBERS WITH OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE AND POSITIVE INFLUENCES WITHIN OUR TRIATHLON COMMUNITY

The Glasser Ginger award is named after our past President of the Las Vegas Triathlon Club – Shawna Glasser. It was created to recognize club members with outstanding community service and positive influences within our triathlon community.

We are honored to recognize these club members that go above and beyond and help make our tri community a better place.

2025 / Quyen Luu

The Las Vegas Triathlon Club is proud to recognize Quyen Luu with the Glasser Award, which honors members who embody the true spirit of giving back and strengthening our triathlon community.

Quyen has been an essential part of our club’s success. At every event, she steps up to help with athlete check-in, results management, and is the communications hub – as well as other countless behind-the-scenes details that ensure things run smoothly. Beyond race-day support, she also creates our monthly LVTC Newsletter – and what an outstanding job she has done! From layout and design, to pictures and copy-editing, Quyen has elevated the Newsletter into a professional-quality publication that keeps our community informed and connected.

What makes her contributions even more remarkable is that she continues to give her time and energy while courageously undergoing cancer treatment. Her perseverance and commitment are an inspiration to all of us.

We are so excited for the day when we can see Quyen back training and racing after she completes her treatment. Her strength, dedication, and positivity truly reflect the heart of the LVTC community.

Thank you Quyen for everything you do for our club!

2024 / YOSHII MATSUMOTO

This year, the Glasser Award goes to Yoshi Matsumoto!

Yoshi has been a cornerstone of the Las Vegas Triathlon Club for many years, and his impact on our community cannot be overstated. As a Board Member, he takes on the important responsibility of managing our membership. He personally reaches out to new members, making sure they feel immediately connected, and stays in touch with returning members to maintain that sense of belonging. His efforts ensure that our club remains not just an organization … but a true community.

But Yoshi’s contribution extends far beyond administrative duties. He is the heartbeat of our welcoming culture. At every single event, you’ll find Yoshi greeting participants with his warm smile, encouraging words, and genuine enthusiasm. That friendly presence sets the tone for everyone—newcomers and long-time members alike. Yoshi has a gift for making people feel included, valued, and excited to be part of the LVTC family.

Behind the scenes, Yoshi’s dedication is equally remarkable. He is consistently one of the first to arrive and among the last to leave. Whether it’s helping with setup, lending a hand during the event, or packing everything up at the end, Yoshi does it all with a spirit of generosity and humility. His willingness to quietly do the hard work ensures that our events run smoothly and that members can simply enjoy the experience.

The Glasser Award celebrates those who embody the spirit of volunteerism, community, and positivity. Yoshi is all of that and more. He represents what makes LVTC so special—passion for the sport, commitment to others, and joy in bringing people together.

Thank you, Yoshi, for everything you do for our club!

2023 / BOB GAMBLE

Bob is the 2023 Glasser/Ginger award recipient

Bob has a passion for triathlon and has a long history of competing in the sport. Not only does he have a passion for the sport, he has a passion for learning all aspects of triathlon as well as sharing his knowledge with others.

Bob got involved with the organizational side of the Las Vegas Triathlon Club as Ambassador in 2020. That didn’t last long because his operation skill set and knowledge of triathlon was quickly recognized and he became a Board member in 2021!

The list of things that Bob has done is quite long! You’ll find him towing the trailer to our events, setting up/breaking down events, working to recruit and organize other volunteers, writing for the newsletter, hosting Rouvy rides, co-hosting the Member Spotlight, … the list of things he does just keeps going!

On top of that, you’ll often see Bob offering visitors bikes to borrow during their stay her in Vegas. You’ll also see him connecting with members (and potential members!) to just talk triathlon or go for a swim, bike, or run with others. He is such a great resource for new triathletes (and all our club members!) and he is very generous with his time to help others get started in the sport.

Bob is a great representative of the club and really epitomizes the “That’s the Vegas Way” culture we have. He is such a big part of what makes our endurance community so great.

Thank you Bob and Congratulations!

2019 / TONY TAYLOR

Tony is the 2019 Glasser/Ginger award recipient

“When I attended my first LVTC event, a summer swim, he greeted me and made me feel so welcome. He continued to welcome me all summer, making me feel appreciated and as if I belonged—encouraging me despite being a beginner. He was generous with advice and celebrated with me as I progressed in the sport.”

“I watched as he served our club, the sport, and our community… providing kayak support for open water training and sweeping rocks on race day. Many don’t know that he also cares for the RMT throughout the week so cyclists can safely enjoy their rides. His positivity and servant’s heart is such a great gift to the Las Vegas triathlon community and his kindness was such a blessing for me.”

“He has been instrumental in encouraging new and experienced triathletes. He is always there to encourage others to “tri”. Heck I am not sure I would be where I am today if it was not for him walking with me 13 years ago at Pumpkinman in 2007, my first real triathlon. I was in tears and totally defeated and he encouraged me to keep going. He is that kind of guy!”

“He gives unconditionally … no expectation for any acknowledgement nor reward.”

“He’s that volunteer that always knows what we need. From sweeping the transition area to kayak support. Helping folks set up transition and identifying the course. He’s always there for whatever we need and you never have to ask him. He just knows it.”

“I love how he’s always at the club races sweeping the rocks away to protect our feet. I also love his “Mountain Lion” sign at the bike mount and dismount line.”

Congratulations Tony!
